Tom's Royal Ascot Day 5 Selections

The fifth and final day of what has been a great Royal Ascot . There has been some spectacular scenes from the not just the horses but their winning connections too and none more so than when Quiet Reflection took the group one Commonwealth cup for the ONTOAWINNER syndicate .

It showed that the so called " little guys " in the racing world can mix it with the giants of the racing world. Only a couple of weeks ago the EQUINEGROWTHSYNDICATE won the Irish 1,000 guineas with Jet Setting before selling her to mega bucks owners ,CHINA RACING CLUB . Racing proved then and today that their is a place for everyone in the racing world. All you need is a dream !!

The most impressive winner of the week,so far anyway, has to be Lady Aurelia from the Stonestreet Farm who's colours have beens carried by some of the most impressive winners in US racing history but what this 2yo in the Queen Mary blew me away. Frankie broke well, went to the front etting blistering fractions and then Frankie said go! Any other year Al Johrah would have been the star of the race as she powered away from Clem Fandango by 2 1/2 lengths. Unfortunately for her Lady Aurelia was 7 lengths in front of her . To win by that far ove such a short distance against that classy of a field is mind boggling .

Tom's Royal Ascot Day 3

Day 2 was meant to be all about A Shin Hikari but it was obvious in he parade ring that something was a miss with the Japanese challenger . There was no fight in him what so ever and he faded away. He may not have had a fight in him but the race turned out to be a belter . Man of the moment Adam kirby made it two group days in two days when My Dream Boat ran down ultra tough Found on the line.

Ribchester got the day off on best possible note for Godolphin. Powered away to win by a comfortable two lengths to give the 2,000 guineas form more substance after Galileo Gold won again yesterday. It was the start of a great day for the boys in royal blue.

Queen Mary was next up and all the talk was about Wesley Wards Lady Aurelia, winner on debut over 4 1/2 furlongs breaking course record in winning by a street. As usual with the American Juveniles they like to go the front, today was no different. Broke well, went to the front after a furlong and the daughter of Scat Daddy took off. Powering away from them. If there was another half furlong, she'd have won by a furlong!! Such a shame her sire is no longer with us.

The Duke Of Cambridge stakes was next. The French master Andre Fabre has Usherette out to back up her Dahlia Stakes victory. If Lady Aurelia was all power, Usherette was all class. She put a classy field to the sword with a very comfortable eased down victory . Will take some filly or mare to beat her over a mile in europe.

Some year for the girls.... Tepin Usherette Winx

The Royal Hunt cup seemed to be all about Librisa Breeze after more than having in price before the race. And the gamble was very nearly landed. The winner , Portage was very well backed for the Britannia last year but bombed out. Every went right and Godolphin registered win number three on the day.

Final race went to the progressive Persuasive for Cheveley Park stud. The daughter of Dark Angel travelled like a dream in the race to go win by length and a half .Theres no ceiling to this girls talents and it will be interesting to see where see goes next . Another one to take out of the race is the Queens Diploma , took very long to settle and then ran on to take 5th.

Royal Ascot Day 2

HIghlight of day 1 for me had to be Tepin winning the Queen Anne . But people still moan about her and try to play down the race. Everything was against her. She wouldn't have like the straight course , ground look very soft, wasn't allowed to wear her nasal strip and couldn't have lasix. She became the first American horse and her trainer Casse became first American ,trains in Canada to win the race.

At this point I was going to talk about Ryan Moore's ride on Aidan O'Brien's The Gurkha but sure whats left to be said about it that hasn't been said already!!

Profitable ran out a deserving victor of the days other group 1 making the day a very special one for Adam Kirby who's girlfriend gave birth to their son only hours before the racing got started . Congratulations Adam.

Caravaggio put himself at the top of the 2,000 guineas picture ( excuse the pun) with a very eye catching performance in the Coventry Stakes when powering away to win from Mehmas by just under 2 1/2 lengths. The son of the late Scat Daddy had now problems dealing with the under foot conditions and I'm hoping his daughter does the same again in the Queen Mary.

Jennies Jewel was giving a peach of a ride by Ronan Whelan to make all over the 2m 4f trip in the Ascot Stakes. She's super tough and not many horses can have the claim to have won on the flat, a national hunt bumper , hurdle race AND national hunt chase, She must be a joy to own. In my opinion if Qewy was still there now, she still wouldn't have gone passed the gutsy winner.

Final race of the day looked to be all about one horse. Mr Trader. One his final start he pushed Caravaggio for a long way before given in inside the final furlong on guineas day at the Curragh. Bought afterwards by Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah . Mr Trader was well backed after the Coventry winner but tailed in near the back of the pack. All was not lost for his owner as his other lesser known horse , Ardad , powered home to win by an easy 3 lengths. Big things look ahead for this son of Kodiac who made his debut,a winning one, at Yarmouth only 6 days ago.

Day twos main event is the Prince of Wales Stakes over 10 furlongs. Two months ago only people that watch overseas racing would have known who A Shin Hikari was, then there was the Prix d'Ispahan (group 1 ) at Chantilly . After the race everyone knew who he was when he dominated a group classed field by 10 lengths easily, extra furlong wont be a problem at all . Be looking to find something to follow him home for forecast purposes unless you've snapped up some of the bigger prices ante posts.

2:30 Jersey Stakes - Ibn Malik 12/1 ew

3:05 Queen Mary Stakes - Lady Aurelia 11/4

3:40 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes - Furia Cruzada 16/1 ew

4:20 Prince Of Wales Stakes - A Shin Hikari - My Dream Boat forecast

ROYAL ASCOT DAY 1

Apparently it's going to be the softest it's been at Royal Ascot for the last 40 years and more rain to come. Is global warming still a thing ??? At the time of me typing 5 words a minute , the going at RA is good to soft, soft in places. With the continuous rain the going is surely going to be Soft all over come race time . It's my favorite race meeting of the year in the UK . So many over seas challengers come to play at Ascot in front of the Queen.

How many race meetings start of their meeting with a group 1?? Not many is the answer to that !! What a race the Queen Anne is going to be wit horses from Ireland , France , America and Japan turning up to contest this valuable prize and etch their names into the history books beside some of the greats.
All three 2,000 guineas winners turn up to race each other in the St James Palace which should be a belter of a race. Third group 1 of the day comes in the Kings Stand, its a shame Chautauqua isn't here because it would be banker material even with the rain.

Day 2 offers up two 2 year old races with some of the most exciting juveniles on both sides of the Atlantic. Its always interesting to see how they match up. The other race on the day is one of the longest of the whole meeting with the Ascot stakes been ran over 2m 4f .

Something for everyone.
